For Primary and Secondary School Students!

Zagreb City Museums Free Throughout March

Throughout the entire month of March, the doors of the City of Zagreb’s museums will be wide open to students of Zagreb’s primary and secondary schools. As part of the pilot project “Youth to Museums,” they will be able to visit them free of charge, independently, upon presentation of their e-register ID.

The initiative was launched by the students themselves from Osnovna škola Ivana Meštrovića and II. gimnazija who are involved in the ZAG – Community of Active Citizens program, with the idea of making culture more accessible, closer, and more present in young people’s lives—not only in classrooms, but also in their free time.

The project includes museums founded by the City of Zagreb: Arheološki muzej u Zagrebu, Tehnički muzej Nikola Tesla, Etnografski muzej u Zagrebu, Muzej Prigorja, Muzej suvremene umjetnosti, Muzej grada Zagreba, Hrvatski prirodoslovni muzej, Hrvatski školski muzej, as well as the Školica za pet Gallery and the Gallery of the Museum of Arts and Crafts.

With this initiative, the City of Zagreb is further expanding access to cultural content in line with the Cultural Development Plan 2024–2030, building on last year’s introduction of the Zagreb Museum Weekend and the Zagreb Neighborhoods of Culture program, within which more than one hundred free programs were held across 14 Zagreb neighborhoods.

“I am pleased that this project originated from students involved in ZAG, as it shows how important it is to them that culture be accessible to everyone. Our goal is for free museum visits to become a permanent practice, and to increase the number of free admission days as early as next year. We want to continuously develop programs that enable citizens to participate in the city’s cultural life. Culture must not be a privilege, but a right accessible to all,” said Tomislav Tomašević, Mayor of the City of Zagreb.

This is precisely the kind of approach encouraged by the ZAG program, together with the optional secondary school subject School and Community, which is part of the broader city program of civic education. The program gives young people the opportunity to identify needs within their community and actively participate in addressing them—this project being a clear example of its success.

Information about the program and museum opening hours is available to students on the Guru za kulturu website.
